Editorial requirements for publication in the Journal

Philippines Association for Sport and Exercise Science expects that articles submitted are research and or theoretical papers that display high level of scholarship and in depth knowledge of Sport and Exercise Science.
Reviewing Procedure

A double-blind reviewing process shall be utilized by PHASES in the selection of scholastic works. It is then expected from the authors to place their name, affiliations, and contact details on a separate sheet of paper. Manuscripts submitted with self-identifying citations and references must be left blank. After the review process, it is then the responsibility of the authors to re-insert the above mentioned citations.
Word processing
Format

Microsoft Word Format is preferred for electronic submissions. Authors have the responsibility of informing PHASES if these requirements are not met.
Files

Submit three files:
·        blind copy manuscript,
·        full version manuscript including name, affiliation, and contact details
·        full name, affiliation and contact details.


The contact details file should include;
·        Full title of manuscript
·        a nominated author to receive correspondence
·        author/authors names
·        affiliation/affiliations
·        full address/addresses for correspondence
·        telephone number/numbers
·        Fax number/numbers
·        e-mail address/addresses

Use the file naming principles outlined below.

For example:

Images should be high resolution jpg’s, saved and submitted as separate files.  Use the file naming principles outlined below:

Identify the location of the image in the text by numbering the images consecutively and inserting the following text amended appropriately for each image.
‘Insert image file (number): (insert file name)’


 

Page set-up

Please set your page to A4 with left and right page margins at 3.17cm, and top and bottom margins at 2.54cm (default layout when A4 page is selected).  Use single spacing; no page numbering required.  Use Arial Font 11 pt.

Each paper is to have a maximum length of 12 pages in PHASES format.  This length includes text, reference lists and pages containing diagrams, figures and tables.  All pages are to be numbered consecutively.
Title/Author/Institution/Affiliation

Title must be upper case bold.  Author(s) initial capital then lower case, centred bolded.  Affiliated institution initial capital then lower case, centred, not bolded.  For example:

Abstract

Include an abstract of between 100-300 words, headed Abstract; centered.  Leave two blank line spaces following the title. 

A minimum of three key words must be included for each article. This will aid in electronic research that readers of the article might want to explore.

Tables

Nomenclature of tables must be done using Arabic numbers, with centered, UPPER CASE headings/not bolded with a blank line between the table number and the title:

SUMMARY OF CLOSE-ENDED QUESTIONS

Indented dot points

Use bullets, specifically, indented dot points in preference to letters, numbers or asterisks.  For example:

The courses in the area of specialization will enable the student to:
·        understand the structure and functions of the human body
·        understand the response of the human body to various levels of exercise and stress

 

Figures

Figures should be incorporated directly into the text.  In cases of compex figures that cannot be formatted this way, it must be passed on a separate file with appropriate space left in the body of the text. Leave one blank line space after the figure.  Figure descriptions should be below the figure and centered.

For example: Figure 2: Reasons for Choosing Sports Science as an Undergraduate Course Headings

Main headings should be shown in UPPER CASE in the center of the page.  Leave two blank lines between the preceding line and a new main heading.  Sub-headings should have an initial capital then lower case, in bold and left justified.  They should be used at regular intervals to assist the reader’s comprehension of the text.  Section and sub-section headings should not be numbered.

Footnotes

Footnotes are not to be used.

References

References should be cited using Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed., 2001).  In the body of the paper references should appear, for example, as Maguire (2001), or Woodard & Chase (2005).  References in parentheses are presented as (Woodard & Chase, 2005).

Author(s) statement of expertise and experience

At the end of the paper, leave two blank lines; insert the ‘AUTHOR’ heading. Include a brief note in the following form:

Acknowledgement

For acknowledgements, details may be placed after the author statement in the following form.  Leave two blank lines; insert the “ACKNOWLEDGEMENT” heading. Include the acknowledgment in the following form

The author would like to acknowledge the contributions of…………………..

Proof verification

Proof reading is primarily the author’s responsibility. Correction of typographical errors and agreement among references throughout the text must be done before sending a copy to PHASES.

Licensing agreements

Authors submitting a manuscript do so on the understanding that, once it is accepted for publication, the author grants to the publisher a perpetual, non-exclusive, royalty free license to publish in whole or in part in all forms of media, now or here after known.  Before publication each author will be required to sign and accept the terms of PHASES’ licensing agreement.

Authors rights

Ownership of copyright in the article remains with the author/authors.  The author/authors may reproduce this article in a University repository or on their home page or use the article for their own personal research and teaching or as a chapter in any book at the expiry of one year from the date of publication of the manuscript in the PHASES Journal.

Publishers rights

The publisher may publish the article in the PHASES Journal in all formats including electronic and may sub-license the journal in its published form to be communicated in full text online journal databases.

Submissions

Submissions can be sent as an email attachment or burnt onto CD and posted.
